Regard éthique sur des outils d'analyse des impacts environnementaux : Contribution à de nouvelles méthodes pour Jat Consulting

Abstract : Impacts analysis tools are valuable instruments for measuring the importance with which an economic project can disrupt the natural and human environment. In his practice of Environmental Impact Assessment, JAT Consulting, a specialized office in Environmental Assessments, deploys the Leopold’s matrix and Fecteau’s grid, the most recognized methods in countries of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU), respectively for the identification and the assessment of potential impacts of a project. However, these tools are not neutral. Ethical choices motivate their construction and are expressed when applied. Deciphering these ethical choices through an epistemological evaluation can be an interesting way to replace human factors at the heart of decision-making process, according to the perspective of an ethics of a sustainable development that wants to be human centered. Then, we hope to contribute to a paradigm shift in the traditional approach in the analysis of environmental impacts, allowing JAT Consulting to gain a better position in the competitive landscape of Togo. The suggested approach is based on applied ethics and is betting on a greater social acceptability of development projects.
